[Campaign Review] The Adults of Carcassonne

By vasshu Feb 10 0

Adults of Carcassonne Banner

The Adults of Carcassonne is the traditional game of Carcassonne with an adult twist. Carcassonne Shoppe turned it into a drinking game. Sorry kids, this one is not for you, unless you’re drinking juice.

Basic Information

Players: 2 – 5 Ages: 21+ (Depends on legal drinking age in your area) Time: ~60 minutes Estimated Delivery: Location: Tacoma, WA

Product Overview

I feel this project was destined to be from the moment I started playing my meeples upside down in the cloisters to indicate drunken monks. Now, first let me point out that Carcassonne Shoppe is not creating a new version of the game. They are simply creating accessories for the game. This allows them to be in compliance with licensing agreements. The game accessories that they are creating are special edition coasters and shot glasses which replace the cardboard game pieces and the meeples respectively.

The Coasters

Adults of Carcassonne Tile ComparisonThe coasters are available in two different forms. The first is a 2 mm thick pulp board. The second is in a rubber mouse pad like material. The pulp board tiles are the largest. They’re 3.5 in. squares or about 89 mm. The rubber coasters are 3 in. squares or about 76 mm. This is in comparison to the traditional tiles which measure roughly 45 mm square.

The Glasses

Adults of Carcassonne Shot Glass OptionsAs of right now, the shot glasses are acrylic only. The Kickstarter page does mention the possibility of alternative materials if a large stretch goal is reached. The glasses will be available in five colors, allowing the standard maximum number of players for Carcassonne.

Notes

Oh right, and of course drink responsibly.

Chances of success

Carcassonne is a successful game, so Carcassonne Shoppe is already building on a well established name. The one issue that will probably slow down the speed at which the campaign is funded is the fact that drinking games are for those over 21 only (depending on locality). However, it also puts their product into a niche which is helpful. As for production, the samples look good based on the images and the video, so as with most other games, the main concern is going to be whether or not their production time gets bogged down.
