We’ve seen it time and time again: fiction drives reality. This has been the case with submarines, cell phones, and soon possibly even tricorders and replicators. However, one of the hottest technologies being taken from science fiction is augmented content. What do I mean by augmented content? Think Ender’s Game where Ender is using his hands to control content. Minority Report, as the SeeSpace team points out, is another example of such technology.
The idea of looking at something and being able to instantly pull up related content is great in our technology connected world. Ever watch a movie and want to look up information about an actor or wanted to find similar movies? SeeSpace InAiR allows you to do just that. It also allows you to do this with emerging 3D television equipment, although the SeeSpace assures us that we will not need a 3D TV to take advantage of the technology.
The Setup
InAiR sits between your cable box and your TV connecting the two using HDMI cables. It connects to the internet through a wireless connection. It looks pretty easy to install and configure, and we’ll tell you more when the unit gets here this fall. After installed, you control the system using an iOS or Android enabled phone or tablet. There are no menus. You simply swipe through content. Want an even more futuristic style of control? Use your Kinect or Leap Motion to control the system using hand gestures.

Chances of success
Here’s another campaign that really just took off. It’s already reached its base funding goal and looks like it will continue to receive a lot of attention. One of the reasons why this project is doing so well and will probably continue to do so well is that 3D televisions are coming down in price. In addition, people are really starting to get hooked on augmented content technology. Such technology is futuristic and we want that future now.
