Game overview

Forum: Sorcery RPG

Special Edition Sorcery Role Playing GameIn short you’ll create the individual adventure maps with the game board tiles that match the quests within the campaign. You’ll create your own character(s), pick miniatures to represent your player(s), roll dice to determine movement on the board, trap results, spells, combat actions, treasure and more. You’ll meet other non-player characters, solve puzzles and unravel a unique storyline by successfully completing adventures.

While the game is playable with just the RPG playbook, as many RPG games are, the complete Kickstarter package comes with the following items:

  • Game board tiles
  • Player character miniatures
  • Monster tokens
  • 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 20-sided dice
  • Color adventure book with maps, spell guide, bestiary, character sheets and abridged rules for quick setup and play

The product itself looks visually appealing. Everything seems to be pretty well designed. In addition, while RPGs like The Whispering Road and Against The Dark Yogi are both great products and have had very successful campaigns, it is nice to have some more RPG sets that come with more than just the play book.

Kickstarter Specifics

Goal: $1,000
Pledge Levels: 6 levels ranging from $10 – $85
End Date: Sun, Mar 30 2014 5:19 PM EST

Chances of success

I would have liked to see a video with the creator discussing details of the game. That being said, the amount that TTI is requesting from backers is quite small as far as games go, even tabletop games, so I can’t imagine that the goal won’t be met quickly. In addition, TTI previously ran a campaign. While that campaign was cancelled, even a failed campaign can act as a learning experience.

As for my usual shtick about backer designed content and early access, an RPG like this would be difficult to provide such benefits. Although it might be to TTI‘s benefit to have a beta test group to make sure all the game mechanics are worked out.
