Forum: Steampunk & Fantasy Playing Cards By Nat Iwata

Steampunk Cthulhu King CardOkay, I’ll say this right in the beginning: I’m not a huge fan of playing cards and even themed versions of playing cards. They’re good for collectors, but I generally prefer new card games like Something Different or Alchemy.

However, who can resist a combination of steampunk and Cthulhu, especially when it is so well done? This is a revised edition of the steampunk Cthulhu playing cards which saw a very successful campaign last year. Apparently Nat’s stock ran out and he decided to revise the deck and print a new batch. Nat has also produced other steampunk related decks.

Based on the material presented in the Kickstarter campaign, the artwork on these cards is fantastic. It does a great job of blending steampunk with Cthulhu styles. The campaign also includes a steampunk Cthulhu/Pirates coin as an addition reward option. The coins really do look great and will be fun to add to any collection.

If you want more copies of the deck, you can get them for $10 each as an add on. You can also add on Steampunk Pirates or Elves & Orcs bicycle cards or some extra coins. All of these are great options.

Kickstarter Specifics

Goal: $10,000
Pledge Levels: 8 levels ranging from $1 – $110
End Date: Tue, Mar 25 2014 9:00 PM EST

Chances of success

The campaign is already seeing a lot of support. That support is most likely coming from the previous success of this series of cards. I really don’t have too much to say in terms of concerns. Nat has a proven track record of producing these cards and of creating successful Kickstarter campaigns.
