Book Overview

Forum: The Oswald Chronicles

The Oswald Chronicles Volume 2This is the second Kickstarter for the ongoing Oswald Chronicles. In this second volume, the production team features The Light That Attracts (Illustrated by Jade Gonzalez)  where Oswald seeks out a friend and finds an old acquaintance whose been changed by time and circumstance.

Also included in this volume is Adventure Time Unbidden (Illustrated by Luigito Teruel) where we find that not all teddy bear’s dreams come true, or do they?  Plus a prose story “How Tender Souls Mourn” illustrated by Daphne Lage.” The first volume will include 158 pages and will be printed in black and white.

General Opinion

I’ve started reading over volume one of The Oswald Chronicles. So far it look promising. I’ve taken some time to start reading through the web comic on the team’s website. I do like what I see. I also think that, if they can get enough revenue together at some point to make a full color edition, it would go a long way to having The Oswald Chronicles just blow everyone away.

Kickstarter Specifics

Goal: $3,500
Pledge Levels: 13 levels ranging from $8 to $500
End Date: Fri, Apr 18 2014 1:20 PM EST

Chances of success

Even though the campaign has gotten off to a slow start, chances aren’t bad that The Oswald Chronicles vol. 2 will succeed. The first volume of The Oswald Chronicles was successful on Kickstarter and there should be a fan base from that as those with whom backers have since shared volume one.

My one concern is that the price is a little high for a black and white graphic novel. $35 is the first reward tier with a physical copy. Compare that to Lighter than Heir, which is full color and about twice as long for only $30. Why is it so expensive? Well, that’s because it’s for a signed/hardcover version. Even in black and white, those aren’t cheap. So it’s worth the price. However, I’m still hoping for a lower priced tier that includes a soft cover print. I’m also hoping that as a stretch goal, a full color edition is added. JD has added $25 tiers for signed trade paperback versions of volumes one and two and a $50 tier for both volumes together.
