Storyline

Dragon Fin Soup SampleThe World of Dragon Fin Soup is set on the back of a giant dragon-turtle god called Asura who swims the multiverse of space-time.  The player can choose to unravel the tale of your chosen character in Story Mode or embark on a journey to discover the wilds of Asura in Survival Mode.

Gameplay

As mentioned above, Dragon Fin Soup can be played in two different modes: survival mode and story mode. Because survival mode isn’t exactly designed to be beaten, game play can last for a very long time. In addition, the world for Dragon Fin Soup is procedurally generated which increases the fun of repeat play. (We at Geekers Keep are big fans of this type of system) The game mechanics itself combines JRPG with traditional roguelike tactics.

Story Mode

Story Mode is designed to focus on storytelling, character progression and exploration. The game begins in a small country village where you slowly learn about the mysteries of the world of Asura. You will encountering a custom blend of procedural content, scripted events, crafted story quests and procedurally generated missions.  The World Map of Asura and Save/Load options will be available to you.

Survival Mode

Survival Mode is designed for the thrills and terrors that come with exploring the wilds of Asura, fighting challenging monsters, and surviving to achieve the highest score in single life. The game begins in a forest at level 1 with limited supplies. You will encounter waves of procedurally generated dungeons filled with traps, monsters, and mini-games that grow in increasing difficult over time.  Tread carefully Save/Load options are available but death is permanent.

Chances of success

Overall I like this project. It seems well designed. There’s a lot of work already being put into the game. Hybrid game play that takes what people like from a variety of different games is a good idea. The team is active in the comments section, answering any questions as they arise.

Chances of success for this project are pretty good. Dragon Fin Soup has already seen a lot of attention, receiving over a third of its goal with 28 days remaining. There are a few issues that I’m seeing with the campaign though. One thing I’ve noticed is that Grimm Brothers hasn’t released a single update yet. At three days in, at least a thank you update is important to prevent losing traction for your campaign. Luckily it’s still early enough that they can fix this.

There’s also no beta tier for backers. The team is relying on a closed beta. Betas are important because they help popularize the game and because they help work out any bugs in the system. They also provide evidence that the team is following through with their promise to provide a product.

Thanks for the nice Article on our game!
You are right regarding the updates and we are sorry about that!
This is our first KS campaign and we had no idea that project updates were popular, we thought it might be good to not make them frequently to not spam the people.
Glad that some Backers clarified it!

    Cheers
