While there are some geek/nerd centric shows out there, like The Big Bang Theory and Doctor Who, they’re few and far between in comparison to all of the mindless shows available through network television. That’s why I’m always excited to see a production company focus on such genres.

Book Overview
Forum: GEEK CRED
You know that executive who works a few floors above you? He has a favorite comics store.
Your college professor? He absolutely hits the comic store.
Celebrities, athletes, fry cooks, your friend’s big sister, regional sales managers, the unemployed 36-year old still living at home… yes, even he… They all walk in and out of a comic store near you on a weekly basis.
The comic shop has become the new melting pot of our society. Those people, US people, are who GEEK CRED is about… and for.
Quite simply, GEEK CRED is a new workplace comedy in the vein of Parks & Rec, Brooklyn 99 and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, but set in the fantasy-fueled, manic environment of a comic book store! A store brimming with ne’er-do-well employees and unhinged customers. If you’ve seen any of the shows listed above, then you know the kind of fun show we’re making.

Chances of success
I’ll have to say, I’m a little bit less familiar with the progress of campaigns on Indiegogo. I spend most of my time reviewing Kickstarter campaigns. That said, the campaign does seem to be moving along a bit slowly. There’s definitely still potential for it to succeed, but I think detail, pricing, and rewards are three issues that are bogging down the campaign.
It took me a whole to really hunt down what this show was about. The summary I used above was from their site, not from the Indiegogo campaign. Let’s face it; the internet has made us lazy. We want to be able to access information immediately, so having to search, for something as basic as what the project actually is, can definitely cut the number of backers.
The production cost seems to be fairly high. I’m using a somewhat similar campaign: Nerd vs. Geek Season 1 DVD, as an example. It’s not unreasonable by any means, but it’s going to be more difficult to reach as a goal. However, I think that’s one reason why the team picked flex funding. Related to that, I would have liked to see access to the videos at a bit lower a price, and preferably on DVD. One great perk is having early access to the show. Backers at the $25 level will be able to see each episode one day before it officially airs.
In terms of production, the team seems to have a solid concept and plan. There definitely need to be more geek and nerd centric. Really we’re in the need for some decent shows overall, so I’m definitely looking forward to seeing the end results of this campaign.
