Book Overview

Forum: The Dark Tales of The Brothers Harrow

The Dark Tales of the Brothers Harrow Vol.1Pale Raven Studios has decided to make an intriguing venture into the graphic novel world. While there are plenty of graphic novels out there with very high quality imagery (we’ve reviewed a few), Pale Raven is trying to infuse cinematic style work into a comic/graphic novel format. From the proof of concept material available on the Kickstarter page, it seems like they have done a pretty good job of doing just that.

THE DARK TALES OF THE BROTHERS HARROW Volume 1 collects the first two issues of two sci-fi fantasy titles – The Delta and Avalon: The World Within. It contains over 130 pages of beautifully cinematic comic goodness.

AVALON: The World Within is a dark fantasy epic about a man who loses everything he loves and owns. And finally…loses his belief in himself. At his darkest hour, he awakens to the reality of an enigmatic fantasy world that mirrors earth, Avalon. Malcolm’s only wish is to find a way back home, but he soon finds himself at the center of a deadly conflict between six powerful entities vying for the rule of Avalon.

AVALON: The World Within is a interesting take on the classic mythic structure in stories old as time and finds a way to reexamine these age-old archetypes.

Chances of success

$20,000 is a mid range goal for a graphic novel and the project received a fair amount of attention over the last few days. The difficult part will be keeping that momentum.

The project has a fair amount of support on Facebook. One issue is that the Facebook profile was set up as a personal page rather than as a business page. I feel it might be more difficult to access the fan base because of that. I think their best option right now is to push the sample art work as much as possible. It’s high quality material and people need to see it.

On that note, probably one of my largest complaints about the project is their webpage. It doesn’t really give much information and is more just a confusing slide show.
