Product Overview

Forum: AngelBlocks

Angel Blocks Smart Wireless Building Blocks For Smart HomesI’m a huge fan of smart home technology. Maybe it’s just because I’ve watched one too many science fiction shows that feature them, or maybe it’s because I think they really have a lot of potential to make our home more efficient, safer, and overall more interesting.

Cost

One of the major problems with smart home technologies is that they tend to be rather expensive. AngelBlocks still aren’t amazingly cheap, but they are modular which means that you can upgrade your home bit by bit. In addition, because they are smart wireless building blocks, there’s no need to worry about complex rewiring.

Human Interaction

But in order to be a truly smart home, the technology needs to react to the people who are in it. Now, AngelBlocks doesn’t come with any special voice or facial recognition software, but it does come with the option of having special tags which the system can use to check the position of people, pets, or valuable items!

Smart Property

Because of wireless range, you can really create a smart property, not just a smart home. I wouldn’t mind testing this out on a farm and see how the technology works as a farm management system or use in even larger scale projects. With a fully modular system, the possibilities are endless.

From the Campaign

AngelBlocks are a cost effective, comprehensive set of wireless building blocks that work together to make your home smart, securing your property, protecting your family, and making your life easier and more comfortable. AngelBlocks can communicate 1000 feet indoors and 2 miles outdoors and operate for 5 years from a set of batteries: they are a truly unique approach to smart home technology.

Campaign Specifics

Goal: $50,000
Pledge Tiers: 6 tiers ranging from $15 to $699
End Date: Tue, Apr 29 2014 10:58 AM EDT

Chances of success

AngelBlocks received a fair amount of support within the first 24 hours. That’s a good sign that the campaign will be successful. Continued support will partially depend on Steve’s ability to maintain backer engagement. This means well written updates and fast answers to any questions asked in the comment section. In terms of project success, this is not the first attempt to create smart home technology and really far the results have been mixed. Even after the campaign is over, the team is going to need to work hard to prove that AngelBlocks are a technology that is here to stay.
