Game overview

Forum: Strange Voyages

Strange Voyages SampleThe first thing I would like to point out is that Strange Voyages is not a stand alone game. It is a setting which can be used in the Fate Core RPG System.

If you’re not familiar with the system, here is a description from the Fate Core homepage.

The system is pay-what-you-want, but I would definitely recommend paying the suggested price if you’re going to use the system.

Fate Core Summary

Grab your plasma rifles, spell components, and jetpacks! Name your game; Fate Core is the foundation that can make it happen. Fate Core is a flexible system that can support whatever worlds you dream up. Have you always wanted to play a post-apocalyptic spaghetti western with tentacle monsters? Swords and sorcery in space? Wish there was a game based on your favorite series of books, film, or television, but it never happened? Fate Core is your answer.

Fate Core is a tabletop roleplaying game about proactive, capable people who lead dramatic lives. The type of drama they experience is up to you. But wherever they go, you can expect a fun storytelling experience full of twists…of fate.

From the Campaign

The year is 1575, in the reign of Elizabeth I. All of Europe is eager to find new lands, new sources of fame and wealth, and belief in myth and legend is still alive. STRANGE VOYAGES will tell the story of a grand ship and a crew gathered from the furthest reaches of known geography. Their travels take them to lands that no one has ever recorded: a sea made of gravel and sand; the mythical country of Faerie; the Cyclopes’ caves; and even venturing into the land of dreams.

Campaign Specifics

Goal: $3,500
Pledge Tiers: 12 tiers ranging from $1 to $250
End Date: Thu, Apr 24 2014 12:25 PM EDT

Chances of success

Strange Voyages is already seeing a fair amount of success. One concern I have, and I am not certain that it is anything to worry about, is whether or not people who are not familiar with the Fate Core system will gravitate towards this product.

Given how well the original Fate Core kickstarter did, I have no doubt that there are a significant number of people out there who are at least familiar with it.

True, but there’s always the problem of making sure those people are the ones seeing the campaign. Conversion rate on Kickstarter, while higher than Indiegogo, is still low. So far the project seems to be doing fine. I’m curious how many backers were already familiar with Fate Core.
