Video Overview

Forum: E-Depth Angel Anime

DingDing from E-Depth Angel AnimeE-Depth Angel is “about a girl without any super powers being forced to face a family of crazy cyborgs with mechs and all sorts of weapons that want to kill each other. Not only does she need to survive, but she will also have to help bring them something they’ve been missing, peace.”

I have to admit, I’m not a fan of mechs. I don’t know why, but they’ve really never been my thing. Still, even though I haven’t had a chance to read the manga, the story line seems interesting, and as is true with most mechs, the machines themselves are somewhat just a means to an end for telling the story.

The animation is still rough around the edges, and I’m sure that is partly due to costs. However, I have browsed through many anime projects on Kickstarter, and not to be harsh, but most of the campaign creators just simply lack the skill level needed to produce an anime. E-Depth Angel isn’t like that. While it’s easy to tell it was designed by a small team, and that the team still has a lot to learn, it shows enough potential that I find it worth backing.

Story

Angel, our main heroine got hired by an abnormal family company made up of rich and powerful cyborgs to be their personal nurse. She quickly realizes the unusually high tension between the family members. All her boss Lien can care about is how to kill his brother Kolei, and take his father Seon’s life.

Their father Seon isn’t anything normal either: His goal is to turn all his cyborg sons into ultimate weapons to conquer the world. He constantly creates incentives to get his sons to fight one another as means to improve their designs.

Angel has a tough task to prevent Lien and Kolei from killing each other while trying to convince Seon this is all a very bad idea.

Campaign Specifics

Goal: $47,000
Pledge Tiers: 20 tiers ranging from $1 to $5,000

Chances of success

Funding a full anime is going to be difficult. Mayshing does have one successful project under her belt, but as complicated as a manga is to create and release, it is of an order of magnitude more complicated to release an anime. People are going to be concerned about whether or not she and her team would be able to pull off all the work involved.

Still, the fact that the manga has already been produced and was produced because of a successful Kickstarter campaign should help. In addition, the overall spread of rewards and tier pricing is reasonable. There are lower cost tiers for people who just want to back a bit, but there are also high end tiers, which are going to be needed in order to reach the $47,000 goal.
