Chances of success
The campaign has a decent chance of succeeding. For the most part, the campaign is well designed. It’s clear that Smiling Goblin put a lot of effort into creating it. Because Krynea Battlefield is based off of Krynea Imperial Wars, there is already a fair amount of support for the campaign: it should be close to 10% funded within the first 24 hours. Unlike some campaigns, which offer little more than the promise of a product, the design for Krynea Battlefield is more or less complete. Backers won’t have to worry about how the final product will turn out.
Extra Decks
Krynea Battlefield is one of the few games, if not the only game, that we’ve reviewed that have a 4 player cap. This cap also seems to require additional decks. That isn’t a major problem, but I would suggest an add-on for additional decks so backers could get one or two additional decks without those who have pledged at certain tiers losing their spots.
Beta Tier
I would say the biggest concern I have right now is the beta tier. It is way too high. When comparing this game to others like Apex: Theropod Deck-Building Game which had a beta tier at 150% of the base game or Alchemy! The Card Game! which had a beta tier at 300%, Krynea Battlefield’s 2700% difference between their base game and beta tier doesn’t seem all that reasonable.
Now there’s a lot in that $1,000 tier. There’s no reason why a beta tier can’t be split from it. I honestly don’t think this will hurt the campaign’s chances of success all that much, but it’s still important to note. Beta tiers are very important in obtaining player feedback for game improvement.
