Book Overview
I am a fan of quality horror movies (not gore) and grade-B horror movies (Evil Dead?). I’m also a fan of classic examples of comedy such as the Marx Brothers. So when someone declares that they have made a comic that puts these two genres together, I have to take a look.
From the Campaign
THE HORROR LOVERS is a love-letter to the types of slapstick movies, humor comics and grade-B horror movies we loved as a child: the frenetic antics of the Marx Brothers, beloved and bizarre 1950s MAD parodies by Harvey Kurtzman and Bill Elder, preposterous and brilliant creature-features by Roger Corman and Ed Wood.

Chances of success
Horror Lovers is a project with a lot of potential with a few missed opportunities. One issue is that the topic is going to need a more robust webpage. A Tumblr account is decent for personal use, but certainly not sufficient for professional use. A Facebook page would have helped as well. The more people following a project before the campaign goes live, the more likely it is that the campaign will succeed. The lack of traffic is evident in the fact that there are currently no comments posted on the Kickstarter page.
** Edit: There is now a Facebook page for The Horror Lovers, which can be found here.
On the positive side, the number of reward tiers is reasonable: some campaigns simply have to many. Among the rewards are the standard PDF and print editions of the comic as well as special editions. There’s also a tier if you want to be included in the comic as one of the victims. Another positive, and this is a big one, is the initial thank you message after the first day. While such a message isn’t going to guarantee a successful campaign, the campaigns which lack this initial attention indicate that the project creator has the mentality that crowd funding sites are “set it and forget it” platforms.
