[Campaign Review] That’s Politics: The Game

By vasshu Jan 23 0

That's Politics: The Game (Banner)

Alright. So Politics might already be a game for the most part. However, for many of us, it’s simply a head ache. That’s Politics: The Game allows us to enjoy the nonsense of political discourse through a satirical card game.

Basic Information

Players: 2 – 4
Ages: 10+
Time: 45 – 120 minutes
Estimated Delivery: July 2014
Location: Pasadena, CA

Game overview

Forum: http://geekerskeep.com/topic/thats-politics-game/

That's Politics: The Game, Package BreakdownThat’s Politics is being created by Sol Games. This will be their first game. The goal of the That’s Politics is to become President, and as in real life, that means getting 270 electoral votes. However, the road to becoming President is not an easy one. That’s Politics: The Game consists of three decks: the political deck, the legal deck, and the campaign deck. In these decks there are a variety of beneficial cards as well as disaster cards, which might cause a loss in votes, reduction of donations, stopping your turn, or delaying actions.

In addition to the base package, Sol Games may also release expansion packs depending on how successful the Kickstarter campaign ends up being. Stretch goals include a booster pack, super powered cards for Kickstarter backers, and a second expansion pack.

Game Inventory

  • Cards: 165 – 87 Campaign deck, 46 Legal deck, & 32 Political deck

  • Tokens: 48 – sixteen 25 vote tokens and twenty-eight 5 vote tokens
  • Dice: Four 6-sided dice
  • Shortcut rules cards
  • The box
  • Main rules

Kickstarter Specifics

Pledge Levels: 11 levels ranging from $1 – $1,000
End Date: Tue, Feb 18 2014 2:59 am EST

Chances of success

While the game seems interesting, it is still very difficult to get people interested in anything that contains the word ‘politics’. This may cause some problems in getting enough backers. In addition, I do not see anything about this campaign on any of the major game networks. However, Sol Games already has a lot of the work accomplished. In fact, they are providing public demonstrations for people in their area.

During the Kickstarter Campaign, Game Empire Pasadena will assist us with a space for public demonstrations of That’s Politics – The Game. These Demonstrations will be held on every Tuesday and Wednesday from 7pm to closing.

Obviously having a play tested draft will help some backers feel more comfortable with throwing some money behind the project.
